David Sumner, a slight-mannered educational from the US, marries Amy, an Englishwoman. In order to escape a hectic stateside way of life, David and his spouse relocate to the small metropolis in rural Cornwall where Amy turned into raised. There, David is ostracized by using the brutish guys of the village, including Amy's antique flame, Charlie. Eventually the scoffs amplify, and two of the locals rape Amy. This sexual assault awakes a surprisingly violent facet of David.
